Training on 'How to use e-books?'

 Training on 'How to use e-books?' was held at IISER TVM Central Library on 6th December 2022. Dr. Sainul Abideen P, Assistant Librarian was the instructor for the hands-on training session attended by the student community. Students were demonstrated with advanced features of e-book databases such as Springer Link, CUP and McGraw-Hill e-book library etc.

Training Programme on Web of Science, organized by the Central Library was held on 6th December 2022. The training was handled by Dr. Sainul Abideen, Asst. Librarian, IISER Thiruvananthapuram. The hands-on training was attended by the PhD and IPhD students, winter school students and staff members.

Free-Trial Access to QuillBot Premium Academic Writing Platform

Free trial access to QuillBot Premium Academic Writing Platform has been activated to IISER Thiruvananthapuram till May 2023.

QuillBot is an online academic writing platform with features like Paraphraser, Grammar Checker, Summarizer, Citation Generator, Plagiarism Checker and many more productivity-enhancing tools.

Paraphraser: Helps rewrite and enhance any sentence, paragraph or article for fluency.

Grammar Checker: Corrects grammar, checks spelling and punctuation.

Summarizer: Instantly condense articles, papers or documents down to the key points.

Citation Generator: Easily create in-text citations in various formats.

How to access QuillBot?

  • Visit QuillBot webpage and sign up using your IISER TVM email ID, and set a password.
  • Click on the verification email you received to activate QuillBot Premium.





Library Orientation Program for the BSMS (Batch 22) Students

The library orientation program for the BSMS (Batch 22) students was conducted on 19-20 November 2022 in the Central Library. The students were divided into different groups, and they were given detailed orientation on how to use the print and online resources of the Library. Each session lasted over 2 hrs. Students were also taken a tour of the library and illustrated its functioning. Demonstration of the RF-ID self-check-in check-out kiosk facility, use of library OPAC, book reservation facility, etc. also conducted. Online Library Services, Online journals, archival volumes, video resources, bibliographic and full-text resources, etc. were also demonstrated to the users, during the training program coordinated by Dr. Sainul Abideen officer-in-charge (Library).

Hindi Book Exhibition

 

Hindi Book Exhibition jointly organized by the Central Library and the Official Language Implementation Committee of the Institute was held during 14-15 September 2022.

A large number of Hindi books were displayed in the exhibition, which was held in the Chemical Science Building of the institute.  Prof.J N Moorthy, Director IISER Thiruvananthapuram, Prof S. Murthy Srinivasula (Dy. Director, IISER Thiruvananthapuram), Deans, HoDs, faculty members, staff, and students of the institute visited the exhibition.

The exhibition was held as part of the Hindi Week Fortnight celebrations organized by the Institute.

Best Librarian Award for Dr. Sainul Abideen P

 Dr. Sainul Abideen P, Asst. Librarian and Officer in-charge (Library) has been nominated for the Best Librarian Award-2021 instituted by the Indian Academic Researchers Association (IARA).

The award will be presented during the IARA awards distribution ceremony to be held as part of the 9th International Conference on Publications Ethics on 01.05.2022 at Kolkata.

Central Library, IISER  Thiruvananthapuram has been awarded the '2021 Highest Usage Award' for the American Chemical Society Journals in the IISERs category.

Academic Profiling of Students using ORCID iD

In the scientific world, it is important to uniquely identify and distinguish one from every other researcher, using various academic profiles like ORCID

ORCID iD will be required by the publishers when one submits articles for publication in journals, and to be used by peers and prospective employers/educational institutions, since it will be showcasing the academic profile including publications, experience, etc.

You may find more information about ORCID, how to create, its use and benefit from these sample videos: Video 1; Video 2

Students are requested to create their own ORCID iD from https://orcid.org/ and inform the library latest by 26th February 2022.

This is a series of free WebEx trainings being conducted by the Clarivate product experts on various aspects of the Web of Science platform to support academic institutions with effective scientific discovery and writing.
